Our client approached us with an exciting project opportunity following the purchase of two semi-detached period limestone-built properties, which required merging into one spacious dwelling.

Internally the houses were in need of refurbishment and our client envisaged a large open plan living, kitchen and dining space on the ground floor, perfect for entertaining.
Working closely alongside the architect and engineer, JM Building provided a full turnkey service for this project, managing the project stages, work schedule and budget through to the completion of the project.
Work began with some internal demolition and stripping out of flooring, fixtures, fittings and decorative effects. We worked carefully to preserve existing period features including fireplaces and structural support beams in order to retain the character of the property and in keeping with the village conservation area.
The ground floor was carefully reworked and involved the installation of 22 load-bearing steel beams to allow for the spacious open plan layout. The majority of the steelwork was clad with oak to match the original beams thereby maintaining the integrity of the period features.

The project included the installation of a new kitchen; two new bathroom suites; a new staircase and flooring and our client encouraged us to apply our design expertise with aspects of these.
The result of merging the two separate dwellings into one, the property is now a 4,500 square foot spacious five-bedroom home, comprising one very large open plan living, kitchen and dining space, a further separate living room, one bathroom, a further en suite bathroom and a large cloakroom.
To ensure year round comfort, underfloor heating was installed on the ground floor along with a new combination boiler, a full electrical rewire and Smart Home installation.
The dual aspect bi-fold doors allow for full use of the outdoor patio dining and entertaining space and mature garden during warmer months while enhancing the natural light and views from the living space all year round.
Internally, the oak beams and furnishings pair with the natural stone flooring to seamlessly merge the modern interior with the period aesthetic of the exterior.

We recently entrusted JM Building with our project - renovating a period stone cottage. The project involved a lot of restructuring and repairs to the existing structures, as the house was in quite poor condition inside. Jamie, Marco and their team confidently dealt with everything step by step, always ensuring we were kept informed of progress and importantly what we could expect to happen next.
The staff at JM Building were always friendly, approachable, hardworking and happy to answer any questions, getting back to us as soon as possible which was reassuring with such a big and lengthy project. The building team worked hard to preserve the character of the property, which was really important to us. The attention to detail on the external stonework was excellent. The installation of bi-fold doors and additional windows have transformed the kitchen into a light and spacious living area and we are so pleased with the way the oak-clad beams tie everything together.
Jamie, Marco and the team at JM Building were a pleasure to work with. They provided us with a full start to finish service, managing our dream home project through to completion. They were excellent at providing expertise, advice and suggestions where needed but also took the time to listen to and consider our thoughts and ideas.
Overall, we are really happy with our completed home and would recommend JM Building.

The project was relatively complex due to the structural changes required, the age of the property and included learning about the period construction methods and careful consideration of period features.
JM Building was already familiar with the chosen architect and engineer on the project, these working relationships resulted in good communication which enabled the smooth running of the project.
